IBH S5 Current Loop Converter
The SMD electronics are housed in a solid metal 15 pin sub-D connector shell. The pin assignment fits the following SIMATIC PLCs: 90U, 95U, 100U, 101U, 115U, 135U and 155U.
The 9 pin sub-D connector plugs into a serial port (COM1 to COM4) on the PC. The PLC must be active and supply the loop current (2 x 20 mA). If the PLC is passive, a current loop converter can be used to provide power.
Cable length is 3 meters (approximately 10 feet).
Need more reach?
If the PC cannot sit beside the panel, two extension cables are available: a 5 meter extension for roughly 8 meters (26 ft) of total reach, or a 10 meter extension for roughly 13 meters (43 ft).
Programming software
To program and diagnose your S5 controller once connected, use S5 for Windows®. If you support S7-300 and S7-400 equipment alongside your S5 panels, S5/S7 for Windows® covers both generations in one package.
Other ways to connect to an S5 PLC
This converter requires a true serial port on the PC. If your laptop has none, or you want the PLC on your network, use one of these instead:
- IBH USB-S5-Adapter – connects a PC USB port directly to the 15 pin AS511 programming port. An active cable powered from the PC, so it needs no loop current from the PLC.
- IBH Link S5++ – an Ethernet converter that puts the S5 PLC on your network over standard TCP/IP, for remote maintenance through a router or VPN, or for S7 HMI access.
